Vivian Suter: Wolf's Hour

Mar 11 – Apr 30, 2021
Rue du Grand Cerf 12, 1000 Bruxelles, Belgium

Vivian Suter paints in Panajachel, Guatemala, a small town on the fringes of a former coffee plantation. Often described as a solitary woman, Suter works outside, combining rainwater and earth with oil paints and acrylics. In “Wolf’s Hour” she ambushes the gallery’s classical architecture with unframed canvases from her tropical studio. They hang from the walls and ceilings, creating a kinetically layered environment. Suter’s totemic swathes of vibrant paint stand in for the lush and elemental Guatemalan lowlands. —E.C.
