Shock has long proved instrumental to the Belgian neo-conceptualist Wim Delvoye. In his past projects, frank bodily functions have been recreated with machinery (Cloaca) or spectrally pictured in gothic-style stained-glass windows. He later began tattooing imagery onto pigs and then sold the skins as art. He also tattooed the back of Tim Steiner, a former tattoo-parlor manager from Zurich, over a period of two years. Part of their deal was that Steiner would exhibit his back three times a year (the first exhibit took place in 2006). So right now Tim is sitting alone in the Museum of Old and New Art. It is eerie, silent. The space is vacant. A lot to think about … especially for Tim. —E.C.
