This Living Hand: Edmund de Waal Presents Henry Moore

May 19 – Oct 31, 2021
Dane Tree House, Perry Green, Much Hadham SG10 6EE, United Kingdom

Henry Moore famously asserted that “tactile experience is very important as an aesthetic dimension in sculpture.” Indeed, the English sculptor often returned to the hand as a subject—as did Michelangelo and Rodin before him. Edmund de Waal, the acclaimed ceramicist and author, explores this aspect of Moore’s practice. In the role of curator, he invites visitors to experience the art haptically, which means he wants you to touch it. “We see a life of reflection on how hands become sculpture,” de Waal explains. “We are returned to what knowledge our own hands hold.” —E.C.
