“There are certain women,” wrote Truman Capote, “though perhaps not born rich, are born to be rich.” He was referring to a group of female friends he called “The Swans”—Barbara “Babe” Paley, Marella Agnelli, and Gloria Guinness among them. Never mind that Capote betrayed his Swans in print in 1975. He was fascinated by the way they sailed gracefully through society, impeccably coiffed and couture-ed. Stephanie Seymour, a few generations younger than the Swans, is a model and actress who began assembling her own collection of couture when she first emerged on the runway. Garments by Alaïa, Courrèges, Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent are part of her treasure trove. This exhibition pairs pieces from Seymour’s collection with paintings by the American artist Karen Kilimnik. —Elena Clavarino
