While rounding up the usual suspects—Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, the Philippines’ Rodrigo Duterte, Turkey’s Recep Erdoğan, Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro—this podcast about the rise of today’s “iron men” also includes two wild cards: Narendra Modi and Boris Johnson. The host, Misha Glenny, has a loose definition of what makes an iron man. To his mind, it’s a democratically-elected leader who uses power to authoritarian ends, exploiting a familiar combination of charm and lies in the process. The six segments are 30 to 45 minutes, one for each subject, and include a fascinating interview with George Soros (on Orbán, Episode One) and a hilarious one with Fintan O’Toole (on Johnson, Episode Six). —J.V.
