What the playwright Ed Napier initially envisioned as a stage play has been re-conceived as the first socially-distanced television series, created entirely on Zoom and co-directed by Emmy-winning producer Jesse Green and actress and filmmaker Jodie Markell. The Building: Under Lockdown tells the story of residents in a co-op on the Upper West Side. Starring stage actors Pun Bandhu, Laura Esterman, and Bobby Lupone, the series features the feuds and intrigues typical of a Manhattan residence, plus the added element of the coronavirus. It’s based on actual events, and opens with a scene that’s frighteningly, yet hilariously, fitting for the times: a doctor is locked out of his own building for fear of the virus. —J.V.
