So many musical artists owe a debt to Joni Mitchell. Phoebe Bridgers and Olivia Rodrigo have cited her as a major influence on their work. Harry’s House, the title of Harry Styles’s 2022 album, is thought to be taken from the Mitchell track “Harry’s House/Centerpiece.” And Taylor Swift’s 2012 Red album drew parallels to Mitchell’s Blue album. Carmel Holt, the host of the new podcast The Road to Joni, drove cross-country this summer, stopping along the way to discuss Mitchell’s enduring influence with some of her many devotees—among them Bonnie Raitt, Hozier, and Don Was. Holt’s trip ends in Los Angeles, where the 80-year-old folk singer will be performing her signature “Joni Jam” concert in October. —Paulina Prosnitz
