Lee

Andy Samberg and Kate Winslet in Lee.

Streaming on Theaters

In Lee, Kate Winslet trains her formidable talents on the role of Elizabeth “Lee” Miller, the intrepid fashion model-turned-photojournalist who left behind her Bohemian life in France to cover the realities of W.W. II for Vogue. Along with the Life photographer David Scherman (played by Andy Samberg, in his first dramatic role), Lee traveled Europe, documenting battles across France, and ultimately, the atrocities at the Nazi concentration camps of Buchenwald and Dachau. In an especially memorable scene, Lee, her boots caked with dirt from Dachau, enters Hitler’s abandoned Munich apartment and takes a bath in his tub. Winslet, who labored on the film for eight years, gives a stellar performance as the brave but increasingly troubled Miller, who bears witness to the horrific events around her at great personal cost. —Paulina Prosnitz
