Japanese artist Teruko Yokoi refers to her abstract paintings as “poems drawn with color.” There is certainly lyricism in these bold, spare works, a spirituality in their suggestion of eternal landscapes. Yokoi has lived a nomadic life, drawing inspiration from both Eastern and Western cultures. After moving between Tokyo and New York, she finally settled in Bern, in 1962. This comprehensive retrospective traces Yokoi’s artistic evolution through 50 of her most important works. —E.C.
