Synchronicity: Award Winning Landscape Photography by Stephen King

Aug 8 – Oct 31, 2020
21/F, 1 Lyndhurst Tower, 1 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, Hong Kong

The Hong Kong-based photographer Stephen King has traveled the world, seeking both the drama and serenity of natural landscapes. “Chinese traditional ink painting has influenced my use of negative space and vertical composition,” he explains, “while a love of Abstract Expressionist artists like Georgia O’Keeffe has helped inform my use of color, composition, and abstraction.” King’s style is often described as painterly, and his shots are intricately composed, often bordering on surrealism. He has photographed boiling volcanos in Hawaii, Icelandic meltwater, and snow-blitzed trees in Japan. In this exhibition, King has turned his eye to the concrete jungle of Hong Kong. These urban images are displayed among landscapes, offering a powerful play between culture and nature. —E.C.
