Spartacus

July 29 – Aug 10, 2019
Bow St, Covent Garden, London WC2E 9DD, UK

Classical dance purists look down their nose at Spartacus, the “wham bam” ballet of 1968 that made the name of choreographer Yuri Grigorovich. Still, with a heroic hunk in the title role, rousing rebel forces ever higher into the air, Spartacus is undeniably thrilling—a portrait of what’s “big” about the Bolshoi Ballet. No other male corps in the world dances like this. —L.J.
