Sideways

Why are humans so bad at dealing with unlikely events? How do the assumptions we make come back to haunt us? These are the kinds of questions the British journalist Matthew Syed explores in his podcast Sideways, a sort of Revisionist History for social phenomena. History and psychology are at play in the podcast, but Syed’s focus is on good stories told in a way that makes you see the world differently. First up, the origins of Stockholm syndrome: Syed interviews the woman whose trauma the disorder was based on. —J.V.
