Shirin Neshat: I Will Greet the Sun Again

Feb 28 – May 16, 2021
3200 Darnell St, Fort Worth, TX 76107, United States

Islamic calligraphy recast as fine skeins that veil a face, or written like commandments on the palms of hands that bear a gun. A new exhibition of photographs and video art, including a body of previously unseen piercing portraits, surveys more than 25 years of work by the Iranian artist Shirin Neshat. The show draws its title from the poet Forugh Farrokhzad, who famously wrote, “Life is perhaps that enclosed moment when my gaze destroys itself in the pupil of your eyes.” Vision (and tunnel vision), religion, power, and gender—all are at large in Neshat’s art. —J.V.
