“You can’t go anywhere in the world without touching fiber,” maintains Sheila Hicks, a textile artist who has traveled the globe, immersing herself in regional textile traditions. “Campo Abierto” surveys Hicks’s work from various periods, and refigures her 2017 installation for the Venice Biennale. The exhibition’s ecological focus reminds viewers of Florida’s vulnerable shorelines. An ode to our planet and its cultures is simultaneously a solemn reminder of global warming’s threat to the Earth. —C.J.F.
