In the exhibition “Panjereh” (a word for “window” or “passageway”), the artist and licensed wildlife rehabilitator Sheida Soleimani shifts from her signature layered tableaux to a series of strikingly intimate portraits of wounded migratory birds. Shot in extreme close-up, these new photographs reflect Soleimani’s care practice—passed down from her mother—and draw parallels between avian migration and human displacement. The birds stand in for exiles, survivors, and those navigating treacherous crossings. In such a contentious present moment, this exhibition is both a study in humanity and a meditation on care as resistance. —Charlie St John
