Romeo & Juliet

Apr 4 – May 31, 2021
Upper Ground, South Bank, London SE1 9PX, UK

Is there a limit to the number of ways Romeo and Juliet can be recycled and renewed? For the answer to this question, simply look to Mean Girls (or to the math problem that prompts Lindsay Lohan’s exclamation, “The limit does not exist!”). As for proof, we have the actors Jessie Buckley (Wild Rose, Judy) and Josh O’Connor (The Crown), who with director Simon Godwin bring romance and tragedy to the backstage spaces of the temporarily shuttered National Theatre, in London, for this new film adaptation of the Shakespearean classic. —J.V.

Premiering April 4 in the U.K. (Sky) and April 28 in the U.S. (PBS)
