Known for ticket lines that start at the crack of dawn, not to mention a cutthroat lottery for tickets, New York City’s hardest club to get into may very well its cheapest: Free Shakespeare in the Park. Since the 1950s, the Public Theater has presented the Bard’s great works in the heart of Central Park. This year, the season opener is well worth the challenging ticket queue. For the first time in nearly 20 years, the classic tale of star-crossed lovers returns to the Delacorte Theater. But this isn’t your typical production of Romeo and Juliet. While the warring Capulet and Montague families argue in English, Romeo (Daniel Bravo Hernández) and Juliet (Ra’Mya Latiah Aikens) speak to each other in Spanish—an act of rebellion against a world that rejects their passion. Directed by the Public’s Saheem Ali. —Maggie Turner
