In 1993, Chandra Halpern, the co-founder of Chicago’s ImprovOlympic, pulled the 22-year old Amy Poehler aside and told her there was a new performer in one of her classes she thought Poehler would like. “Her name was Tina and she was like me with brown hair,” Poehler recounts in her 2014 memoir. So began a friendship and creative partnership that would span three decades, five seasons of Saturday Night Live, four blockbuster movies—Mean Girls (2004), Baby Mama (2008), Sisters (2015), and Wine Country (2019)—and countless hilarity-filled television and award-show appearances. Fey and Poehler’s new comedy tour, Restless Leg, touches down in New York on February 13. Combining improv, standup, Q&A, and a return to their “Weekend Update” days, the show is testament to the fact that when these two combine forces, the result is comedic gold. —Paulina Prosnitz
