On the evening of April 15, 2019, the fire that struck Notre Dame, France’s finest example of Gothic architecture, was televised around the world. The Lady of Paris, dating to 1163, withstood a 19-hour blaze, but before the fire was extinguished the majority of her roof had collapsed and her spire was gone. Over the last three years, a team of architects, engineers, stonemasons, artisans, and technicians have been hard at work, endeavoring to restore the Church to its former splendor. This fascinating new documentary chronicles their struggle as they pull one of the country’s most important monuments from the ashes. —Elena Clavarino
