Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo started collecting over 30 years ago, in 1990, shortly after receiving her bachelor’s degree in economics from Torino University. She started her eponymous foundation five years later, which has since amassed work by every conceivable notable contemporary artist, from Berlinde De Bruyckere’s corporeal sculptures, to Damien Hirst’s mummified animals, to William Kentridge’s poetic prints and Cindy Sherman’s arresting portraits. In 2017, the foundation mounted its first show in Spain, at Madrid’s Casa America, where Cai Guo Yiang and Dominique Gonzalez Foerseter exhibited multi-sensory installations. For its 30th anniversary, the foundation is organizing its second traveling show, which opens in the 16th-century galleries and courtyards of the Palazzo Strozzi. Artists on the roster include Maurizio Cattelan, Sarah Lucas, and Josh Kline. —Elena Clavarino
