In 1983, Barbara Kruger unveiled a groundbreaking solo show. It’s centerpiece was a black-and-white photograph of a woman lying on the ground, a leaf covering each eye; a text overlay read: “We won’t play nature to your culture.” It’s now 40 years later and this piece is on display in London alongside works by 50 international women and gender-nonconforming artists. The show’s theme arises from Kruger’s provocative text, which connects the oppression of women with the degradation of the planet. —Elena Clavarino
