The Mexican artist Raúl de Nieves makes work that is synonymous with joy. His sculptures are multicolored, encrusted with everything from pieces of stained-glass to beads, bangles, sequins, and bells. The embellishment is over the top, but built in are references to Mexican religious ceremonies, folklore, and traditional costumes, along with symbols of queer club culture. This exhibition of vivacious sculptures, delayed by the pandemic, should bring the word alegria to both heart and mind. —E.C.
