Over the last year and a half, the artist and poet Precious Okoyomon has been knee deep in greenery. Every few months, they transform the roof of the local museum, using a mixture of sculpture and plants to address different themes. For the mild Colorado summer, Okoyomon and local growers have combined plants deemed invasive and even dangerous—honeysuckle, kudzu—with species indigenous to the area: dandelions, mugwort (considered invasive in the East), milk thistle. The botanical takeover of space and resources is an allegory for human stories of invasion and colonization. Sculptures—called “angel protectors”—hang over the plants. On select dates musicians, theorists, filmmakers, and performers will interact with Okoyomon’s garden. —Elena Clavarino
