For those who have never been to the Apulia region of Italy, Monopoli is a small town nestled on the Adriatic coast, just south of the city of Bari. The town is medieval, protected by an ancient fort, and the whitewashed houses sit perched above the Mediterranean. In the midst of the town’s palazzi, curator Vincenzo de Bellis has decided to mount a town-wide fine arts show that’s based on the Ancient Greek term xenia, or “hospitality.” Spread out across the monastery of Santi Giuseppe and Anna, Palazzo Martinelli, and other historic landmarks, this show brings 60 renowned artists together. Participating galleries include Gagosian, Massimo de Carlo, and San Gimignano’s Galleria Continua. —Elena Clavarino
