Extravagant textiles make for some of the most sumptuous museum exhibitions. The embroidered biblical scenes in papal capes and chasubles! The gold and silver bullion worked into the ceremonial wear of royalty! This exhibition focuses on the painted fabrics and garments of Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela, which fused European traditions with Indigenous techniques. —Laura Jacobs
