Outside Fashion: Fashion Photography from the Studio to Exotic Lands (1900–1969)

Jan 1 – Mar 8, 2020
Keizersgracht 401, 1016 EK Amsterdam, Netherlands

Fashion photography, which is now a subject of full-blown academic study, has moved from plate to portrait to sitting to shoot to meta-inflected postmodernism. “Outside Fashion” looks into one facet of this prismatic form—its move from indoors to outdoors, from imagery invented in the studio to the on-location fashion spread, which reached its zenith in Diana Vreeland’s Vogue in the 1960s. The show boasts approximately 150 photographs, from vintage gelatin silver prints to Ektachrome projections. —L.J.
