Housing some of the oldest objects known to mankind, the British Museum’s collection is one of the most extensive in the world, with a mind-boggling eight-million objects that span two-million years of human history. Impressive holdings in Assyrian sculpture, Greek mausoleums, and Etruscan artifacts do not mean the museum has shirked on modern and contemporary art. While doors are closed, the museum is working to make it treasures accessible online. Current curated sections include “Desire, love and identity,” “Death and memory,” “Animals,” “Egypt,” and more. —E.C.
