New York Jewish Book Festival

December 11, 2022
36 Battery Pl, New York, NY 10280, USA

If rewatching When Harry Met Sally no longer scratches your itch for old New York, a new Jewish penicillin is on the way. The first ever—and long overdue—New York Jewish Book Festival comes to town on December 11. The Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park City will be hosting keynote speakers, panels, and book talks throughout the day. Every topic to grace your own Sunday bagel brunches will be featured from food, humor, and fiction to gender, the Holocaust, and Jewish-American identity. For the most Jewish theme of them all—smoked fish—it’s only fitting that the dynastic Zabars will pull themselves away from the deli counter to discuss their iconic legacy. A. O. Scott and Mark Harris will dissect the Jewish Holy Trinity: film, literature, and criticism. Other fixtures of Jewish New York, such as Gary Shtyengart and AIR MAIL’s very own cartoon editor, Bob Mankoff, will be there schmoozing. You might even catch Tony Kushner negotiating a discount on a weekly lox delivery. —Lucy Horowitz
