Nam June Paik: Art in Process: Part One

Nam June Paik, Lion, 2005.

May 24 – July 22, 2022
980 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10075

A major exhibition surveying work by the Korean-American artist Nam June Paik (1932–2006) just closed at the Singapore National Gallery, having finished a long tour through galleries around the world. Paik was the founder of video art. He came up with the term “information superhighway” in 1974, way before the internet existed. In Part One of this show, Paik’s practice is examined across four turbulent decades. Highlights are the Opus Paintings, rotund images of television sets on canvas, as well as 359 Canal Street, an installation tribute to his Manhattan studio. —Elena Clavarino
