With Riccardo Muti, it’s never same old, same old. A comparative stepchild among Beethoven’s immortal Nine, the Fourth is sure to reveal new colors; and while you figure that the Seventh will blaze (Richard Wagner called it “the apotheosis of dance itself”), the finale could catapult you to ecstasy. And to raise the curtain, there’s Orpheus Undone, a world premiere by the critical darling Missy Mazzoli, from whom the Metropolitan Opera has commissioned an adaptation of Lincoln In the Bardo, the visionary novel by George Saunders.
