The Swiss artist Miriam Cahn has referred to her art as both “ovulation works” and “menstrual works.” In paintings, sketches, photos, and writings, her body—a body—is usually present. Political themes of female agency and autonomy lurk and float. This retrospective sets Cahn’s sketchbooks alongside her best known work in many media. —C.J.F.
