The humorist Max Beerbohm rose to notoriety for his irreverent parodies and caricatures of England’s upper crust. He was the most prominent celebrity lampooner of his day, ultimately achieving a level of fame that equaled those he skewered. This attention came with a price. Beerbohm wrote extensively, especially toward the end of his life, about the personal struggles that accompany a high profile. These copious yet rarely seen essays and fictional works, along with a collection of “original caricature drawings, manuscripts, photographs, books, and personal items,” are brought together in an exhibition that offers a complete portrait of Beerbohm. —Jack Sullivan
