The Houston-based designer Joyce Lin explores the mind-boggling, skin-crawling connections between interiors and exteriors. She gives her creations titles like Egg Chair (2019) and Skinned Table (2020), and her new exhibition, “Material Autopsy,” explores those weird instances when something is neither alive or dead. “Sometimes I encase [organic materials] in plexiglass to achieve the feel of a taxidermied specimen or artifact,” Lin explains. She is interested in sitting with discomfort, tension, and limbo, and asks us to sit there as well. —Clara Molot
