Marta Minujín is a pro at overloading the senses. The New Museum described her work as having “wtf did I just experience?” energy—fitting for an artist credited as a pioneer in participatory art and performance. Born in Buenos Aires in 1943, Minujín takes an unconventional approach. Synthesizing pop and punk with politics and public intervention, her art embodies the human experience, even something as mundane as the relationship between a person and their mattress—the place where “you are born, you die, you make love, you can get killed on.” The exhibition “To Live in Art,” Minujín’s first solo show in Mexico, features iconic works such as El Obelisco Acostado, La Torre de Pan de James Joyce, and a selection of her mattresses. Accompanied by archival materials, the exhibition showcases her art and life. —Alexandra Lemer
