“I’m not so young anymore. I want to try everything in life,” said the French fashion designer Pierre Cardin in 2017, still game at 95. He was discussing the play he’d produced, which was making its first stop in America and is based on the life of Marlene Dietrich. Written by French actors Cyrielle Clair (who also stars as Dietrich) and Gérard Chambre, its script incorporating both French and English, the play evokes the 20th-century femme fatale who just happened to be a dear friend of Cardin’s (he designed the costumes for the show.) After making stops in Miami and Las Vegas—“It was important to return to the place where Marlene had started her international career,” Cyrielle has said—the play returns home to Paris’s Théâtre de la Tour Eiffel. —J.V.
