The fashion designer Manish Arora ascended in India in the 1990s. Color! Sequins! Dazzling design! His clothes were distinctive. Arora debuted on the London runway in 2005, before going on to high fashion Mecca—Paris. For a time he ran the French fashion house Paco Rabanne. Often called the “John Galliano of India,” Arora’s designs have been worn by Lady Gaga, Kate Moss, and Priyanka Chopra. Business missteps made worse by the pandemic caused the company to close in 2020, but at SCAD the focus is on the extraordinary designs of India’s fashion star. —Elena Clavarino
