Since its debut at the Tabernacle in London, Letters Live—inspired by Shaun Usher’s Letters of Note series and Simon Garfield’s To the Letter—has celebrated the enduring power of that literary form known as the letter. Yes, they argue, even today the written word remains a steadfast companion, championed by people as different as Benedict Cumberbatch and Patti Smith, who’ve both taken part in discussions of famous letters. The organization now arrives in New York for a three-night run, each evening offering a different lineup. May 31 features Laura Linney and the Tony Award–winner Nathan Lane; June 1 welcomes Emily Mortimer and Sam Nivola; and the closing night, June 2, brings Bryan Cranston and Ariana DeBose to the stage. A portion of the proceeds are going to Choose Love, a nonprofit organization that supports refugees across the globe. —Elena Clavarino
