Vaslav Nijinsky, Serge Lifar, Svetlana Zakharova, Irina Dvorovenko, Sergei Polunin—Ukrainian dancers have been lighting up the ballet stage for over a century. With Russia’s cruel and gratuitous attack on Ukraine still raging, it’s time to wrap oneself in blue and yellow for an evening with the Kyiv City Ballet. The company travels the U.S. from September 16 to October 26, and repertory will be drawn from the following: a full-length Swan Lake (choreography by Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov, and Ivan Kozlov), excerpts from Carmen, the contemporary work Thoughts, the neoclassical Tribute to Peace, and the Ukrainian folk dance Men of Kyiv. The 15-city tour stops in Chicago for two performances at the landmark Auditorium Theatre, a great house for dance. —Laura Jacobs
