Born in Arlington, Massachusetts, the American photographer and filmmaker Katy Grannan now lives and works in Humboldt County, California. The images in this exhibition, Fraenkel Gallery’s sixth presentation of her work, feature people who seem to align with the spirit of Humboldt County—quiet, secluded, peaceful. Grannan found models on Craigslist and local bulletins, and her curiosity focuses on how surroundings affect individuals, and the story that relationship tells. Grannon’s work is held in the collections of several renowned museums, including the Met, MoMA, the Guggenheim, and the Whitney. —Henry McGrath
