When we think of the Renaissance we tend to envision Leonardo’s Mona Lisa, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling. This show focuses on a lesser known yet pivotal facet of the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries: Armor. Rarely seen Renaissance armor from Vienna’s Imperial Armoury, plus armor on loan from other museums, will be paired with Renaissance paintings, textiles, and sculptures. The 170 objects on view shed new light on these bespoke suits of steel—masterpieces of both craftsmanship and artistry. —Elena Clavarino
