A few years ago, the curators of the National Museum in Oslo started scouting around Norway, looking to expand their roster of art and artists. They scoured hamlets and cities, looked at work by emerging artists, and hosted an open call at the museum, which garnered over 1,000 submissions. But one question remained: What is good art? This exhibition lets the art itself answer the question. In the museum’s 2,400-square-meter Light Hall, 150 works address gender, identity, politics, nationality, and belonging. —Elena Clavarino
