Is there a more fraught relationship than the one between humans and the environment? We draw life from its resources, inspiration from its power, joy from its beauty, only to turn around and tear, plunder, and exploit it to the point of destruction. A new exhibition at Fotografiska explores this tumultuous bond, featuring works by 14 contemporary artists, an epigraph by the climate justice activist Xiye Bastida, and programming that includes a performance by the Brooklyn Ballet, music by the Iris Trio, and a live talk with the author and photographer Pete McBride on his new book, The Colorado River: Chasing Water. A portion of the exhibition is dedicated to the pioneers of the environmental photography genre, from Ansel Adams to Edward Weston. —Paulina Prosnitz
