“Hip hop was like the newspapers of the streets,” says the photographer Joseph Rodriguez. “The youth were rapping about the very important issues in their communities.” This exhibition at Saatchi looks at the rise of hip-hop through the eyes of photographers Rodriguez (born 1951), Gregory Bojorquez (born 1972), and Jamel Shabazz (born 1960). Featuring snaps of Missy Elliot, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Eminem, and Swizz Beats, among others, the show takes in both the East and West Coasts as it explores the profound impact that hip-hop has had on fashion, culture, film, and politics. —Alexandra Lemer
