Harold Mendez: Let Us Gather in a Flourishing Way

Sept 26, 2020 – Jan 10, 2021
1717 E 7th St, Los Angeles, CA 90021, United States

Harold Mendez, an American artist of Mexican and Colombian descent, creates poetic assemblages that evoke layered histories. He is interested in exploring the transnational experience, and studies the intricate relationships between history, geography, and our sense of self. In this exhibition, Mendez injects new meaning into found photographs, using charcoal and graphite to trace over archival imagery, giving these pieces new sociocultural significance. As a sculptor he does the same, recycling industrial goods, organic matter, to comment on place and identity. —E.C.
