Born in Rotterdam, Willem de Kooning was interested in art from a very young age. By the time he was 12, he was in training at a top design firm. Ten years later, at 22, he stowed away on a ship to the United States and moved to New York City. The exhibition “Endless Painting,” curated by Cecilia Alemani with the help of the Willem de Kooning foundation, cover over 40 years of the Dutch American’s work. Moving between figuration and abstraction, his art pushes the limits of our understanding. In this exhibition, Alemani focuses on the human shapes and colors that were continuing motifs in de Kooning art. —Henry McGrath
