Ghost Palace: A Talk by Laurence Bertrand Dorléac

October 21, 2021
13 Av. du Président Wilson, 75116 Paris, France

Laurence Bertrand Dorléac didn’t just teach art history at the University of Picardy in France, she created the school’s art history department. Now an art history professor at the Paris Institute of Political Studies and a prolific essayist on modern art, Dorléac has taken a piece she wrote for Palais De Tokyo’s Magazine Palais #31, titled Joy Without Hope, off the page and into the gallery space. Using stories from the gallery’s past, she considers the phantom presences shaping the museum. Detailing previous exhibitions, and also looking to contemporary artists whose work focuses on reanimation, Dorléac summons the ghosts of Palais de Tokyo. —J.D.
