Fiber art can be poetry. Look no further than the work of Ferne Jacobs, who has been exploring the poetic impulses of the medium for over 50 years. For Jacobs, fiber art is a form of oral history, a way to touch the past in creative and colorful ways. The Craft in America Center in Los Angeles is hosting the artist’s first retrospective, which includes 30 works dating from the 1960s to 2022. Knotting, coiling, and twining, Jacobs speaks and dreams through one of our most ancient forms of aesthetic expression. —Sophie Kemp
