The power couple Rafael Payare, conductor, and Alisa Weilerstein, cellist, team up for a program consisting of two concerti of very different cut. First: the evergreen Dvořák Cello Concerto, op. 104, of which Weilerstein has said, “It has all the structuring and epic sweep of a symphony. It goes from ecstasy to tragedy to pathos. And every time out, there’s something new to discover.” After the break: the U.S. premiere of the new Concerto for Orchestra by Wynton Marsalis, an LA Phil commission engineered to showcase the crackerjack virtuosity of the entire ensemble. —Matthew Gurewitsch
