Fashion, Design, Jewellery Exhibit

A look from Issey Miyake’s Autumn/Winter 1996 collection.

107 Rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris, France

Attention, design lovers. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs is exhibiting pieces of haute couture, ready-to-wear, high jewelry, and costume jewelry in its permanent galleries for the first time. Typically dedicated to furniture design, ceramics, and glassware, the exhibition rooms are now sprinkled with 30 fashion items and 100 pieces of jewelry from important 20th-century designers, among them, Cartier, Christian Dior, Balmain, Ettore Sottsass, Ron Arad, and the Campana Brothers. Spread over five floors, the exhibition highlights the interdisciplinary nature of design and debunks the idea that certain disciplines deserve higher status than others. A robe adorned with patterns by Jean Dubuffet, for example, will offer contrast to Jean Prouvé’s distinct and simple lines. —Jeanne Malle
