EGO, a looming, large-scale sculpture handwoven from thousands of hairlike strands of black nylon, takes over the seventh-floor exhibition space at Pace. The work of multimedia artists DRIFT, this airborne sculpture was made in the shape of a block, but a motor-pulley system, software-guided, is attached to each corner. Consequently, the block—a shape that suggests organization, control—gives way to suggestions beyond its control, moving in smooth, effortless waves. The effect is powerful: this man-made object looks and feels like a natural phenomenon. —E.C.
